Krishna Lifts Govardhan Hill
When devastating storms threatened the people of Vrindavan, young Krishna lifted the mighty Govardhan Hill with a single finger, protecting every family, every cow, and every devotee beneath its shelter.
The peaceful village of Vrindavan prepared grand offerings for Lord Indra every year, believing he controlled the rains that nourished their crops. Young Krishna questioned this tradition and gently advised the villagers to instead honor Govardhan Hill, the forests, the rivers, and the cows that truly sustained their lives.
The villagers accepted Krishna's wisdom and celebrated Govardhan instead of Indra.
Enraged by this perceived insult, Indra summoned fierce storm clouds. Thunder roared across the sky as relentless rain flooded the fields and homes of Vrindavan. Fear spread among the villagers.
Smiling calmly, Krishna placed the little finger of his left hand beneath Govardhan Hill and effortlessly lifted the entire mountain.
Everyone—people, cattle, birds, and animals—gathered safely beneath the hill. For seven days and seven nights, Krishna held Govardhan without fatigue while the storm raged outside.
Finally, Indra realized Krishna's true divine nature. Filled with humility, he descended from heaven, apologized, and praised Krishna as the Supreme Lord.
Govardhan became a timeless symbol of divine protection, unwavering faith, and the power of humility over pride.
